Every time I fly, and the attendant gets up to review the flight safety procedures, I have the same reaction to the segment about passengers flying with young children. “If you are flying with a young child…place the mask on yourself first.” Each time this is read, I nod and smile. Odd, I know-but it is part of a philosophy that I practice (Note: practice) with a fair amount of regularity, well with a regular amount of inconsistency. More often than not, I put the children first.
Last week, when both children had plans and my husband was at work, I set out on a shopping junket, alone. I bought the usual sundries and a few items for the house, but I also picked up a few key components for my makeup bag-or “mask”, in this particular analogy.
Looking good and feeling good have a natural symbiosis and quite seldom exist exclusive of one another within the same person. Being a proud member of the “Naked Face club” means wearing little to no makeup, but lately I haven’t even been moisturizing. Shudders. The daily routine has left me flying through most days with little regard for my “safety” placing all care and due diligence into the task of caring for others. Well, no more.
Beginning Sunday, yes tomorrow I am going to take a moment to regard my own “safety” or self-preservation as the story would be told and take 5 minutes to don my “mask”: some moisturizer, a little lip tint, mascara, liner and mineral bronzer before taking flight. I’ll be charting my progress on my blog Tea & Honey Bread with a full report on how I felt before taking the time, and after when I return next Saturday. If you are so inclined to join me, please leave a link to your blog in the comments section.

Nice! I think this is definitely gonna be the year that we start really making sure that “we” are ok, lol. I don’t think I can pass up this challenge to self.

I know, I’m looking forward to seeing myself after a little TLC-it’s been a long time!

This is something that I have struggled with for a long time. Constantly putting their needs before my needs has taken a toll on me. I am mentally, spritually and physically drained. I will also take this challenge on!
Good for you, Carol! It is indeed so easy to forget that you too have needs. I look forward to hearing how the week goes for you and hopefully the future!
